The stringent Maharashtra Regulate of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been invoked in opposition to a gang of six individuals that allegedly extorted cash from a businessman.

Police have recognized the six accused as Yogesh Nagpure (35), the ‘gang chief’, Pramod Salunkhe (25), Wajid ayyad (25), Mangesh Tamnbe (28), Lakshmansingh alias Hanumanta Tanvar (35) and a lady.

Police stated Nagpure and the lady accused are nonetheless at the run and makes an attempt are on to track and arrest them.

The accused allegedly posed as newshounds and extorted Rs 5 lakh from a businessman. They threatened to post information in opposition to the businessman in a newspaper via blaming him for working an unlawful industry, until he paid them off.

Police have arrested 4 accused on this case, whilst the remainder two are absconding.

Police stated Nagpure has been booked previous in connection to critical crimes corresponding to try to homicide, extortion and human trafficking.

Senior Police Inspector Ajit Lakade submitted a suggestion via DCP (zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh to invoke MCOCA in opposition to Nagpure and his gang contributors on this case. The proposal used to be authorised via Further Commissioner of Police Namdev Chavan.
