Info4Now (Siliguri)- Once again, there is a stir in Jaldapara National Park surrounding the death of rhinoceros. Traces of dead rhinos have been found in the Torsa River that flows through the national park. It is being investigated whether the rhino was killed for poaching, or there was some other reason behind the death.

According to the Forest Department, the body of a rhinoceros was found floating in the Torsa River near the Shimlabari forest settlement on Saturday morning. Forest department personnel reached the spot. The body was rescued by a crane. The Forest Department’s initial estimate is that the rhino has died after drowning in the Torsha river due to heavy rains. Whether the sword or the body is intact is being examined.

Last year, a plague appeared in Jaldapara Sanctuary. Several rhinos died within days. It was believed that one rhino after another was dying due to poaching. Besides Jaldapara, Garumara’s ‘Don’, the famous rhinoceros of Garumara also died at that time. Although his sword was intact. Therefore, the staff of the forest department had the idea that he had died due to old age. This time again, a new stir is created around the death of a rhinoceros in Jaldapara National Park. The authority is very keen to find out the exact cause of death. Therefore an autopsy might be a key to that confusion.

In 1941, for the conservation of the animals especially Indian one-horned rhinoceros and plants of here, Jaldapara was declared a sanctuary. Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is renamed Jaldapara National Park in 2012, is located on the banks of the river Torsa in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. But the nuisance of poachers over the past few years has been noticeable. The forest department has taken several steps to curb poaching. It has also been possible to reduce trafficking much more than before. But despite this, the cause of death in Jaldapara rhinoceros is not going to be blown away right now. It is being investigated whether the sword has been cut or not.
