Avani Lekhara got the first gold medal in the Paralympics for India. Sumit Antil set the new record with a throw of 68.08m in his second attempt.
Neeraj Pandey set a world record by winning gold at Tokyo Olympics 2020. This time India has won three medals at the Paralympics javelin throw category. Among them are a gold (Sumit Antil), a silver (Devendra Jhajharia), and a bronze (Sundar Singh Gurjar).
By Sunday, India had won a total of two medals. Both of them were silver. But on Monday, one medal after another started coming to India. India have won a total of five medals so far on Monday alone. Of which two are gold, two are silver, and one is bronze. With this, India has won a total of seven medals.
On Monday morning, Avani Lekhara’s gold win brought a smile to India’s face. Avani Lekhara became the first-ever Indian woman to win an individual gold medal at either Paralympics or Olympics.

As the whole country started rejoicing at the success of one medal after another on Monday, a stigmatized chapter came to the fore. Vinod Kumar had won bronze on Sunday. Other competitors in this category complained against him. At that time, the Paralympics authorities said that they would reconsider it before awarding the medal. On Monday, Paralympic authorities said that Vinod Kumar did not have the required barrier in the F52 section of the Discus Throw. So his medal was withdrawn.
